When it comes to this breed I
have so much joy just speaking about them!! You are dealing with a very
powerful dog yet gentle heart!
I have found that the Rottweiler is very
intelligent and fearless, they need to know who is in command and you always
need to be the pack leader.
I always get the question “can I have a
Rottweiler when I have children?” my answer is YES! Not only because I think so
but because I also have 2 lovely daughters (3 and 5 years). First of all
you need to raise them between your children otherwise you are going to have a
problem like with any other dog.
"The
Rottweiler only want to protect and please his owner and we need to teach our
children to have respect for this breed."
There have been a lot of sinister stories told
about the Rottweilers and many people still think of them as killer-dogs. It is
true that some extreme incidents have happened where this dog breed mauled or
even killed people. However, this happens only when the dog is not trained
properly, or as a result of unscrupulous Rottweiler breeders’ work. This dog
can be extremely gentle and obedient and it is also incredibly confident,
highly intelligent and alert. In fact many people would be surprised to find
that these fierce dogs can actually behave like clowns sometimes.
Always start with female dogs when you have
children, they are much more gentle with them than the male dogs (important to
remember always).
These are wonderful dogs that will stand
between 22 and 27 inches tall and Rottweiler’s usually have a short, very dense
coat, which is coarse to the touch. The combination of black and rust is very
distinctive, with the rust found on their chest, along the legs and the face.
They are very impressive to look at owning Mastiffs for their origins.
The Rottweiler needs a lot of exercise and is
usually happier outdoors than indoors. However, a Rottie can be as happy in an
apartment as anywhere else provided he is exercised well. They are excellent at
tracking, guarding, herding, and protecting property.
It’s important to have their hip and elbow’s
tested because this breeds tend to have this problem and having a dog in pain
will cause a lot of problems regarding aggression and behavior problems.
Once you have a rottie……… you
will never go back!!!
